If you are between jobs, moving, or just seeking affordable health insurance, a short term health insurance plan can protect you & your family in the event of unexpected illness or injury. Plan terms are flexible, (1) to six (6) months & are available to individuals between the ages of 15 days and 64 years old. Choose a health plan that's right for you and your loved ones.
How Long Are You Covered?
Some health providers offer short-term health insurance on a month to month basis for up to 12 months. Coverage can begin immediately after you are approved or you can set a future date for the plan to be effective.
If the amount of time you need short-term health insurance for is between 30 - 185 days, you should inquire about single payment plan options. Providers often offer a discount for paying the full amount up front.
Who Is Eligible?
Eligibility for short term health insurance is determined by the state you reside, however some basic qualifying factors include:
- Between jobs
- Waiting for employer coverage to begin
- College Graduate
- Part-time, temporary or seasonal employee
- A dependent no longer covered under parents' health plan
- Laid-off or terminating employment
- Foreign residents living in the U.S. for at least one year with appropriate documentation
Since pre-existing conditions are not covered with short term health insurance plans, underwriting is quicker and easier than with regular health plans.
